The Potawatomi Buffet Experience
Posted On 08/26/2008 04:21:32

“We believe buffet dining was meant to be fun—and that’s the spirit you’ll find at The Buffet, our answer to the challenge of mixing the best possible food with entertaining surroundings and a character-filled staff.”

Is this how they really feel? They need to re-write their position statement above!

Sorry, I didn’t find that experience at all at the new Potawatomi Buffet! They may have did a beautiful job spending the money of all us less fortunate folks at left in the slots when it comes to their newly remodeled casino – but they should have left the buffet alone, it worked, it was great food, it was a great time and it was affordable…

The new style & service at the Potawatomi Buffet matched the service I’d expect at the local all you can eat joints and excuse me if I seem out of line here but if they think I’m capable of serving myself at the food lines – I think I’m just as capable of getting my own soda, milk or coffee and again excuse me if I seem a bit insensitive here and I’m typically an above average tipper, but I’m not tipping for someone to ask me what type of drink I would like.

I can’t tell you how many times I left twenty dollars bills in the slots after enjoying a great dinning experience and I’m sure we’re not alone in this, their all you can eat buffet was a magnet to attract the people in the first place – and we’d typically make a night of it as we’d eat, we’d gamble and we’d see the show…

In all fairness, the food was still pretty darned good – but I can get good food much closer to home. The service and overall experience was just terrible, the lines for the meat we’re long and you couldn’t tell if you were coming or going, everyone wanting to get a baked potato had to fight their way through the meat line or they did without. I have seen more organized lines at the food court in the mall.

With a new price tag of twenty-five dollars for “only” those who hold the Fire Keepers Card – and more if do not, there are plenty of other great places to enjoy a prime rib dinner and I’ll be seeing them soon.

Glacial Drumlin State Trail
Posted On 07/10/2008 05:58:36

Well, it’s no secret that we have been spending a lot exploring “things to do” in communities near – or not so near my hometown of Waukesha.

This past weekend we took a trip west on the Glacial Drumlin State Trail. I ride this trail often, but I don’t usually go further then the Village of Wales. It makes for a real nice relaxing 15-mile bike ride from where I hop on the trail. This trip started out the same but my younger brother pushed me a bit – actually a lot – we didn’t turn around until we reached the quite town of Dousman, about 15 miles later. Factoring in my age and shape 15 to 20 miles has been pretty much my limit. I underestimated the energy I was going to need to get back, I did make it, but not without a little whining…however, there were no regrets, the trail offers the best of country biking, wildlife and deer, the breeze was just enough to keep away the bugs for the most part. The DrumlinTrail is a beautiful place to ride, roller blade or just take a stroll, the weather was perfect and my brother and I enjoyed each others company for about three hours. Next time you’re looking for something healthily and relaxing to do – hop on the Drumlin, I'm sure you'll enjoy the time.

My Visit to Brookfield Square
Posted On 06/30/2008 05:03:05

Have you been to Brookfield Square lately? That old image had to go and for the most part, it’s gone. WOW, The mall’s been under renovation and I must say as they put this new image together – I do like many of the changes that were made. I’m not sure if I get the design of the floors? But the overall design of main corridor, the tall stone columns, the ceiling beams with the accent lighting are nothing short of remarkable. I’m not sure what the final look will be for the food court, just please tell me they’re not leaving that ceiling exposed – even painted, it’s way to busy for me.

Regardless of my vision of the perfect design I really feel they invested well for both the businesses and the consumers. For those that don’t already know, the mall added a Starbucks kiosk and being smack dab in the middle of the mall, it makes for the perfect place to take the load off your feet – it works for me – beside the typical café style seating, they also have several over sized leather chairs to relax in – which is where you’ll usually find me when I stop. The next time you’re out that way, stop in and see the changes.

I very seldom stop at the mall without browsing the shelves at BN, and this last time was no exception – My newest book “The Answer” by John Assaraf & Murray Smith. I did also try to find out if there was a DVD of the book as there is with “The Secret”, It didn’t take but a minute for the BN help to look it up and tell that there is not one at this time.

I must say, a couple of weeks ago I tried to find this book locally in Downtown Waukesha, as we’re browsing around during the Friday Nite Live event, but the cashier that night must not have thought I really wanted the book, I was disappointed that the cashier at the book store offered absolutely no help in me getting a copy of the book. At the very least, I would have expected him to ask if he could order it for me. I do hope this was an isolated incident because of all the commotion with the band outside his front door, but I might never know now.

I wonder how long I would have stood at the counter at Divino Gelato Café if they thought for a moment I really didn’t want to try their fabulous Italian Ice Cream, they however made sure I left with what I went in their for and it was great! Thank you for the service. Divino Gelato Café was probably the busiest business on Main Street that Friday night, and it’s clear as to why.

Coffee Convenience
Posted On 05/23/2008 05:54:22

I want convenience, especially when it comes to morning coffee or a little caffeine on the way home from work. Who would have ever have thought that someone would add a new coffee spot on the corner of Moreland and Delafield – City of Waukesha, a corner that for many years was home to some dilapidated auto service center? Directly in front of a corner shopping center that has seemed to struggle keeping tenants… Starbucks steps up to the plate…

I’d like to thank Starbucks for investing in the neighborhood and for the added “convenience” of your drive thru window that makes it easy for us coffee drinkers to enjoy a great cup of coffee on the way to work…only two minutes from Downtown Waukesha, no parking hassles for those that want to walk in and sit down? Seating inside and out…

It doesn’t get any better than this.

See the Starbucks listing :)
