Downtown Oconomowoc Construction
Posted On 06/22/2008 10:41:59 by gina8664

So I spent part of my sunny Saturday in Oconomowoc yesterday. What a great downtown area, and I met some really nice small business owners. There is a ton of construction going on with one of the major streets...Wisconsin, which seems to have deterred the average summer strolling shoppers from venturing into the area. I just thought it was so odd to find this wonderful treasure basically abandoned on a Saturday when the weather finally has begun to cooperate.

I wanted to let the world know it is not that tough or inconvenient to get to the downtown businesses even with the rehaul of the area. There is plenty of parking right off the main drag behind the businesses, and the walk is just a few feet from behind. As a matter of fact, it isn't even that much of a chore to walk down the street and there is plenty of opportunity to cross the street at various points along Wisconsin.

One of my favorite stops yesterday was at a quaint coffehouse/cafe Whelans coffee and ice cream. First off, I loved the welcoming decor and the added patio out back was perfect for a beautiful summer day. I was fortunate enough to meet the owners, some of the most genuinely nice folks around. The latte I had was brewed to perfection, the employees are fun and really enjoyable to visit with. The variety of bakery, espresso drinks, smoothies and ice cream was tremendous. We also heard they are going to begin serving daily soups and get into the luncheon business.

I had never taken the time to visit downtown Oconomowoc, but with easy access to the lake this is really one of my new favorite weekend jaunts. I will go back to spend another Saturday or Sunday to discover even more small treasures like Whelons and grab a latte head across to the lake to enjoy the view. I encourage everyone to do the same.
